Spring Open House And A B-Day Surprise

This is the start of what should be quite a few posts, trying to cover everything we did this weekend. That ain’t easy y’all, it was really busy! Please excuse me if it’s a little short, really tired after the workshop today. The pics look a little different because I forgot my camera and Crystabell was nice enough to let me borrow hers.

The weekend hit the ground running with an open house at the studio to celebrate spring. That seems a bit funny to some of y’all in the rest of the country who are shaking snow off your boots, but here in Florida we’re already in shorts and tank tops! The studio filled up nice with plenty of people coming to visit and party with us, and for a while there was a bit of milling around and snacking.

A little more snacking and wine as Krystal and Crystabell discover the beverages…

… and some more snacking with Omaris modeling the popcorn…

… annnnnd some more snacking and wine by our fearless leader Johanna.

There was some admiring of Crystabell’s pants too. Y’all have no idea, the woman has an addiction. She’ll be founding the first chapter of Pants Anonymous soon, but you can’t argue she has style coming out the wahzoo! Mind you, I didn’t post any pics of her wahzoo. You’ll have to take my word for it.

The band was hawt though (and their music was good too), and it wasn’t much longer before things got moving on the dance floor.

Shake it girlie! This vixen in the yellow top can get more parts of her body moving in different directions all at once then I even knew were able to move.

The evening was accomplished with a minimum of look at her doumbek jokes, but with these girls it’s difficult not to comment. It’s really fun to listen to them practice, I love trying out some new moves to their rhythms.

Omaris danced incredibly as always, spinning and handling her veil like it was a part of her. In fact, she was so involved in her dancing she didn’t realize what lay in wait for her outside the studio door!

Shhhh! It’s a surprise B-Day cake, shown here before the war to light it started. Coastal Florida can get very windy, and poor Johanna was crouched down in a corner trying to light those sparking trick candles while I leaned over her in the *totally* safe position of shielding her from what wind I could with my full length silk skirt. Yeah, there were no inappropriate jokes being made there either by the onlookers. Of course not, us dancers keep to the most polite and morally upstanding company.

Surprise Omaris, you stunning creature you! Would’ve taken some better pictures of her first reactions, but I was too busy wielding flowers and giggling. What do you people want from me anyway?

Photobucket

It took a while and plenty of help for her to get the candles blown out, but soon we were all munching on the cheerfull carroty goodness.

This woman is made of molasses, she’s that darn adorable. You can’t help but love duck face her daughter is making here too, I ain’t sure if it was intentional but it’s painfully cute.

Fortified with baked goods and hugs, Loud Zoo got down and dirty with some tribal for an appreciative audience. Y’all, if you ever get a chance to see them perform and play please don’t miss the chance! They’ll have you shaking your hips and signing up before you know what happened, you can’t resist them. Don’t even try.

There was a bunch that I didn’t get pics of and wish I had, like Abbey’s from Hoola Monsters hoop dancing and Crystabell and Krystal dancing for the crowd. Heck, even I was up there pretending I knew what I was doing. Raihan’s drumming, Loud Zoo’s playing… Y’all should’ve been there! Wanna start taking notes at these so I can tell y’all about it much better.

Next update, Saturday’s beach party and Sunset Hooka Lounge!
